NO MAN IS CONTENT WITH HIS LOT

英文諺語 NO MAN IS CONTENT WITH HIS LOT 無人能滿意於自己的命運

米德佳提供中文到英文翻譯服務,含英文編修
People seem to be dissatisfied with what they have, and want other things. Here the ‘lot’ in ‘content with his lot’ means ‘condition’, ‘share of worldly reward’. We are none of us satisfied with the way we have to live and the work we have to do.
One morning I found myself unhappy and I could feel myself falling into depression. I disliked my job, where I was living, and where my life was headed overall. I decided at the beginning of the year to take a year off of school to work two jobs to save money and on my time off, travel. I am happiest when I am traveling. I feel most at home watching a sunrise or sunset away from my everyday life. So naturally when I would travel and come back “home” I was more upset and unhappy with my life. I started to really pray and meditate and ask for clarity and direction with where to go with my life. It was not long before I realized that I had spent my entire life living for others. Everything from the clothes I wore to deciding what my major would be in school was chosen with other people in mind. The expectations of my parents, grandparents, and family had completely ruled my world.
And then it hit me…
YOU CAN DO WHAT EVER YOU WANT TO DO!

You cannot work for two different people, organizations, or purposes in good faith, because you will end up favoring one over the other.
Home • Proverbs • N • No man can serve two masters
No man can serve two masters A man with two employers cannot be faithful to both. Nor can a man support two conflicting causes. The source is Matthew, vi, 24: ‘No man can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despite the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.’

NO PAIN, NO GAIN

英文諺語 NO PAIN, NO GAIN 不勞則無獲

米德佳提供中文到英文翻譯服務,含英文編修
no gains without pains = no pain, no gain
If you want to improve, you must work so hard that it hurts. (Associated with sports and physical exercise.) Suffering is needed to makeprogress, as in “I’ve worked for hours on those irregular French verbs, but no pain, no gain." Although this idiom is often associated withathletic coaches who urge athletes to train harder, it dates from the 1500s and was already in John Ray’s proverb collection of 1670 as“Without pains, no gains."
What is the opposite of pain? Nine out of 10 people will say, “Pleasure.”
Incorrect. The actual opposite of pain is “no pain” – i.e. comfort. And while comfort may be very nice, it is not the ultimate pleasure. A person who goes through life chasing comfort will be very disappointed at the end – because if you spend your life avoiding pain, you will also avoid the deepest pleasures.
As much as everyone tries to minimize pain in life, the fact remains that pain is unavoidable. Everything has its ups and downs. Therefore, if we want to succeed in life, the key is not to eliminate pain entirely (for that is impossible), but rather to learn how to understand and accept the pain.
EXAMPLE
No pain, no gain many people tend to overdo their exercise programs looking for quick results
不勞則無獲有些人傾向過度鍛煉達到更快的效果。

NEVER SAY DIE

英文諺語 NEVER SAY DIE 勿氣餒灰心

米德佳提供中文到英文翻譯服務,含英文編修
MEANING
Don’t give up.  Never say die means that you should not accept that you have failed while there is still a chance that you may succeed.
It means never back down, never give in hold your own. At the same time you also need to be willing to admit when you are wrong, but if you know you are right or if you believe in something whole heatedly, you never let anyone bring you down, no matter what they do, no matter what they say, you need to overcome.
EXAMPLE
Jane: “I don’t think I can finish this project in time, but never say die".

英文自傳範例: 社會工作 SOCIAL WORK

I decided to apply for the social work degree because after the past nine years I have encountered a lot of different experiences, problems and achievements. Through my adolescence years I faced many obstacles such as: my cousin going into care and witnessing alcohol and drug misuse. After these ordeals I realised from that point that I wanted to be the one to help young people overcome problems. I want to strive to be a better person, so I could make a change in a young persons life and know when I go home on a night, that I made a difference and that’s why I want to pursue my career as a social worker. Because of the nature of my chosen career path I believe my personal life experiences will make a great impact. I have experiences with mental health,as a family member has paranoia-schizophrenia who I see on a regular basis. I also have experience with older people who have health problems caused by old age. As my grandfather suffered two strokes in the past, where he lost his speech, memory and was paralysed in his legs and arms.
When I attended school one of my subject for GCSE was health and social care. Through this course I learnt about the development of children and young people, the elderly and the kinds of care and support they require and much more. The greatest memorable experience through the course was when students with severer disabilities attended my school. My role was to bond with the students and to help and encourage them to participate in making clocks for Christmas. From this experience I learnt to be patient, compassionate and non judgemental. After leaving school I decided I wanted to work with children so I enrolled on an nvq2 in children’s care, learning and development course. Through the duration of the course I attended a private day nursery with children under 5’s. I volunteered at the nursery for four days, twenty four hours a week. My responsibilities within the nursery was to help and provide personal and emotional care, assist with the development of the children, plan activities and children’s observation for their development files. I gathered many skills such as;communication skills (with children and parents),organisation skills, teaching skills and managing my workload and responsibilities. I also attended a couple of training causes whilst on the course which were:child protection, health and safety, food hygiene and first aid. At present I am working voluntary in a sure start children and families centre for sixteen hours a week. I am currently studying my nvq3 in children’s care, learning and development which I will complete in July 2011. I enjoy working in a sure start centre as I get to interact with the parents, this is one of the areas I wish to get some more experience on. In this nursery I am working with children of the age of three and children with disabilities such as down-syndrome and aspergers syndrome. This has given me an insight on these types of disabilities and how it effects young children. To get extra experience I have just finish a eight week training course to become a NHS hospital visitor for the chaplaincy department. Throughout the training I learnt about spirituality, different kinds of losses, listening skills and much more. I am starting the ward visiting in December once a week in Bradford Royal infirmary on the children’s ward. My role is to visit the children and families from bed to to bed and provide them with a chance to talk about anything they would like.
To keep me up to date with the social changes and issues I read the community care magazine. I also love to watch panoramas and documentaries on real issues that people are facing every day. The most recent panorama I have watched is ‘kids in care.’ I hope by studying the degree in social work I have the chance to understand more about social problems in society and their causes, effects and solutions and how us as practitioners can diminish and try to resolve these situations.

NEVER LOOK A GIFT HORSE IN THE MOUTH

英文諺語 NEVER LOOK A GIFT HORSE IN THE MOUTH 餽贈之物切莫挑剔

米德佳提供中文到英文翻譯服務,含英文編修
To be ungrateful to someone who gives you something; you look in a horse’s mouth to determine its age and/or health. Since horses’ teeth grow over time, checking their length is a way of gauging old age. So if someone gives you a horse, and you look the gift horse in the mouth, it’s like looking for a price tag. It’s rude!

英文自傳範例: 宗教學 RELIGIOUS STUDIES

宗教學英文自傳 RELIGIOUS STUDIES AUTOBIOGRAPHY EXAMPLE

米德佳提供翻譯服務,英文自傳,英文履歷表,英文求職文件,學術論文修改及文件編修等服務。
I find it inspiring to be in the presence of other people who are seeking understanding of themselves, and the most intense experience I can remember is when I attended a Baptism where I witnessed the transformation people would undergo. In addition to these personal experiences I have found my A-levels in Religious Studies and Philosophy to be absorbing because of their ability to provoke a reflection upon my own beliefs. I would like to study religion at degree level because I hope this would further my personal understanding, and my knowledge of other religious perspectives.
I have been particularly interested in the comparisons and contrasts between Christian and Buddhist religious views and practices. This requires an understanding that is absent from any projection of our own beliefs and values onto what we think ‘the other’ may be. When dealing with other cultures, I believe that it is easy to mistake them for something that we hope, or fear them to be. I think it is important to have an accurate, well informed idea about the major religious traditions that affect our lives in the increasingly globalised world.
Moreover, I based my Religious Studies coursework on the relevance of religious experience to justify our beliefs. It included an evaluation that encompassed psychological and sociological explanations, and included a consideration of logical criticisms which were made up against arguments from experience.
I wrote an article for the college newspaper which provided a short introduction to Amnesty International. There has since been an Amnesty group formed within the college and we are now preparing for Protect the Human Week in October 2008. Planning for this week has required some of the skills that are useful for a degree particularly when it comes to communicating with others, working to a deadline, and retrieving appropriate information for a particular topic. By my own initiative I have also entered the Student Union elections because I was dissatisfied with the progress made inside the college last year.
During this year’s Fresher’s Fair, I attempted to create a multi-faith group for people who were interested in inter-faith dialogue. The response was disappointing; however I am now re-introducing Peace Mala to the college which invites people from much broader backgrounds to celebrate what makes us different from each other. Because of these interests I am applying for courses in university where there is likely to be a multi-cultural student body.
Most of what I know has originated from books because I enjoy being self-directed and disciplined in my study. I wish to read religious literature and analyse the context it has been written in because I am interested to see if the context reflects in the literature itself. I think this is important because I believe that without understanding the historical context we can not fully appreciate the texts we are reading.
In support of my study of Buddhism at A2, I have read books by Thich Nhat Hanh, and Damien Keown that include The Heart of Understanding, and Buddhism: A Very Short Introduction. Both have provided me with a stimulating introduction to Buddhism and I have been particularly interested in Thich Nhat Hanh’s commentaries on the Heart Sutra. His commentaries are extremely clear and have certainly whet my appetite to learn more about this fascinating religion.
I take an enthusiastic interest in hiking. My most recent hike involved conquering the three highest peaks in the UK, certainly the most challenging thing I have done outside of college as it took an unlikely form of stamina to achieve, namely the mental kind. These walks cultivated our friendship as we worked together, progressing to our next destination on the map. In the summer of 2009, we are scheduled to complete a long-distance walk for our charity of choice for which I have chosen Oxfam. The course I am applying for is well suited to all my interests and I look forward to student life.
